There must be a better place for a cell tower

Had the proposed Telus tower near Loretto, been in place some 40 years ago when my wife and I were attracted to the pastoral setting of this area where we settled, I doubt our beautiful acreage in the shadow of a truly monstrous tower, would have been our choice.

My point is that future prospective buyers may feel the same way. Faced with a tower completely out of character with the surrounding landscape, some would look elsewhere and in doing so help depress the resale values of property in the whole area, a value that many of the longtime residents are depending on in their retirement.

The proposed site (corner of Hockley road and the 5th line) of this enormous tower — ome 230 feet tall — is on very low ground compared to surrounding ridges necessitating it’s excessive height, I suppose.

I do understand the need, in this day and age, for reliable cell phone communication but it seems to me a smaller tower located at a higher elevation, would be more appropriate and less taxing on the landscape.

The process of locating a tower is governed by federal law and requires Telus to consider concerns or objections of nearby landowners, within a certain time limit.

If you have concerns about the proposed site, please contact Telus by email at: Alan.Lee@telus.com before April 3.

 Jorgen and Ans Sondergaard,
 Loretto
