Cruiser crash under investigation

A Barrie police officer was one of two sent to hospital early Friday morning after a crash on Ardagh Road.

Police aren’t releasing many details, but said the collision happened just before 5 a.m.

A vehicle hit a cruiser and both drivers received minor injuries.

Racing suspect nailed in Bradford
South Simcoe Police charged a 26-year old Manitoba man with street racing after clocked at 118 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on the 9th Line of Bradford West Gwillimbury. Residents called about the driver Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. 

The man’s driver’s licence was suspended for seven days and his vehicle seized.

Cocaine seized
A 39-year-old Barrie man was charged after being stopped on Dunlop Street West. Police said the man was pulled over for a traffic offence, but crack cocaine was found after a search. He is set to appear in court in August.

Tokyo man in hospital
Barrie Police played a role in saving a man’s life after getting a call from a Toronto resident Wednesday morning.

The caller told police he was worried about a friend in Tokyo, thought to be attempting suicide. The man’s family lives in Barrie, so police called Japan to see what was happening. After many calls and help from a translation service,

Tokyo police got into his apartment and found him unconscious. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he was treated for digestion of drugs. He is now in stable condition.
