Joint wireless communication towers for Rogers and Bell are being proposed for two locations near Beeton and Tottenham.
The Beeton site is at 5472 8th Line, about two kilometres east of the urban boundaries. In Tottenham the location is 6467 3rd Line, directly southeast of the urban limits and east of the main CP rail line.
Rogers already holds lease agreements with the landowners of each property.
Allowing Rogers and Bell to host public meetings for the towers was on the agenda for a committee of the whole meeting Monday night. There were no objections or comments to the item by New Tecumseth councillors.
Public meetings will be arranged by Bell and Rogers. Residents living within a radius three times the height of the towers will be notified of the meetings.
Rogers first approached the town about the towers in July 2007. As the town was also fielding offers from Bell at the same time a joint-build initiative was arranged. Telus was also a part of the original joint agreement, but has since said it has no plans to build new facilities.
Telus and Bell have faced adverse reaction to proposed towers recently in Adjala-Tosorontio and Thornton. The Telus tower was west of Loretto and Bell proposed one west of Loretto.
