Police had the intersection of Western Avenue and Queen Street in Tottenham cordoned off Saturday morning after a teenager was stabbed in the chest at about 4 a.m.

A Tottenham teenager was sent to hospital after being stabbed in the chest early Saturday morning.

At about 4 a.m., police were called to Queen Street North and Western Avenue, and found the 16-year-old lying on the ground, suffering from stab wounds. He was sent to Stevenson Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said a suspect fled the scene on foot, but the Central Region Emergency Response Team and canine units were unable to find him.

Officers were still at the scene at 9 a.m. The Nottawasaga Crime Unit is investigating.

Police have not provided a description of the suspect.
