Simcoe County District School Board Notes
• The new Innishore North public school will be named Hewitt's Creek Public School, after a small creek that runs through the community
The name was approved by a committee of politicians, board staff, community members, and students. Other names making the final consideration were Innishore Public School and John G. Simcoe Public School.
•At its Aug. 27 meeting, the board voted to review the uses and costs associated with its current policy of video recording its open meetings.
Trustee Caroline Smith said she felt recording the meetings was very important for both the public, and for the school board’s own records. She said she would like to see the video streamed on the Internet.
•The Nantyr Shores Alternative Program will move from its current location on Lilac Drive in Alcona to a plaza on Innisfil Beach Road. The board agreed to a five-year lease that would see the floor space of the centre double to meet increased enrolment. The new location is currently being built onto an existing plaza, and should be completed by Dec. 31.
•The school board voted to renew its annual membership in the Ontario Public School Boards' Association. Membership fees this year were about $95,000. The OPSBA is a non-profit lobby organization that also provides professional support and services to trustees.
