A 48-year-old man is dead after a short police chase Tuesday afternoon.
Barrie Police officers aren't releasing many details, as the Special Investigations Unit is now investigating the crash at Ferndale Drive and Essa Road.
Sgt. Robert Allan said police were investigating a stolen vehicle from Dunlop Street West. An officer spotted the Mitsubishi around 3:30 p.m. at Ferndale and Tiffin Street and started to follow it.
The 15-year-old driver didn't pull over, and continued south on Ferndale. Eventually the car T-boned a Honda Civic at the Essa Road intersection.
Firefighters had to extricate the 48-year-old man from his Honda shortly before 4 p.m. He was later pronounced dead at Royal Victoria Hospital, and his name has not yet been released.
The teen driver was also taken to hospital for minor injuries. Officers have now charged him with dangerous driving causing death, flight from police causing death, theft and possession of property obtained by crime. He's expected in bail court today.
The Barrie branch of the Ontario SPCA was also called to take two dogs away from the crash.
