Skiers at Devil's Glen Ski Club will have better cellphone signals, but residents of the area aren't happy after the approval of a cellphone tower for Rogers Wireless.
Clearview council overlooked a petition signed by 122 people, some of them local residents, were not in favour of the tower location at the south side of Cty. Rd. 124 at Devil's Glen.
The signatories also said there are more visually appealing cell towers than what is typically erected.
Ken Vogel, a Collingwood resident who owns property across the road from the proposed site, circulated the petition. He said the more aesthetically pleasing towers look like trees in some cases.
Still, elected officials said cell towers are really the responsibility of Industry Canada and that the site-plan issue involving the municipality is merely a formality.
Vogel, however, disagreed and said he plans to now lobby Industry Canada - which has final approval authority - to address some of the concerns that residents have regarding the tower.
